Progressive Veteran Group Escalates Pressure on Sen. Tommy Tuberville over Military Promotions

A progressive veterans advocacy group called VoteVets is intensifying its efforts to end Sen. Tommy Tuberville’s nine-month hold on senior military promotions. The group has already spent $300,000 on national cable ads criticizing the Alabama senator’s actions. They have also set up a visual display on the Senate lawn and organized meetings between retired generals and Republican lawmakers.

These efforts have started to yield results, with some Republican senators, including Todd Young, Mitt Romney, and Joni Ernst, speaking out against Tuberville’s hold during a Republican lunch. Chuck Schumer’s votes to confirm three top military leaders also marked a victory for Democrats, although Tuberville’s team saw it as Schumer giving in to his demands.

VoteVets believes that the key to ending the holds is to persuade more Republicans to speak out against Tuberville. They are determined to expand their pressure campaign and may modify their strategy by targeting states where senators support the holds.
