Pomerantz LLP Files Class Action Lawsuit Against Lumen Technologies

Pomerantz LLP has filed a class action lawsuit against Lumen Technologies, Inc. (“Lumen” or the “Company”) and certain officers. The lawsuit, filed in the United States District Court for the Western District of Louisiana, Monroe Division, is on behalf of a class of individuals and entities that purchased Lumen securities between March 11, 2019, and July 14, 2023.

Lumen Technologies, formerly known as CenturyLink, Inc., is a telecommunications and technology company that provides integrated products and services to businesses and residential customers in the US and internationally. Lumen operates a copper cable network for its telecommunications services.

The complaint alleges that throughout the Class Period, Lumen made false and misleading statements about the company’s business, operations, and compliance policies. It is claimed that Lumen owned and/or still owns thousands of miles of cables wrapped in lead, posing a significant public health and environmental risk. The complaint states that Lumen was aware of these risks but failed to disclose them.

On July 9, 2023, the Wall Street Journal reported that lead-covered cables previously used by Lumen and other telecom companies were degrading and leaching into soil and groundwater, creating a public health risk. On this news, Lumen’s stock price fell. The WSJ continued to publish articles on July 11 and 12, further highlighting the risks associated with lead-covered cables.

Seeking Alpha also reported on July 14 that an analyst had determined that Lumen likely has exposure to potential liability related to its lead-sheathed cables. These reports caused Lumen’s stock price to drop.

On August 1, 2023, Lumen’s executive management disclosed that approximately 35,000 miles of its copper network could contain lead.
