The Institute of Electronics & Telecommunication Engineers (IETE) India has awarded G Satheesh Reddy, the former chairman of Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), with the ‘Honorary Fellowship 2022-23’, the institute’s highest award. The award was presented during the Annual IETE Convention (AIC) 2023 held in Pune.
As the chief guest of the event, Satheesh Reddy stressed the importance of self-reliance in electronics and telecommunications through the indigenous development of devices, sensors, detectors, and equipment. He also highlighted the potential for significant exports in these fields.
Satheesh Reddy has received numerous national and international awards for his contributions in navigation systems, avionics, and other defence technologies. His leadership has played a crucial role in advancing India’s defence sector.
The award recognizes Reddy’s distinguished service in the field of Defence Research and Development (R&D), specifically in the areas of missiles, strategic systems, fighter aircraft, unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), armaments, underwater systems, strategic materials, radars, electronic warfare (EW) systems, and futuristic technologies. Through his efforts, India has become self-reliant in defence.
Eminent scientist Padmashree Pramod P Kale, the former director of VSSC, ISRO, was the Guest of Honour during AIC-2023. The event was attended by IETE President V Gunasekhar Reddy, members of the General Council Committee, awardees, life members, students from various educational institutions in and around Pune.
