Huawei Partners with ITU to Drive Digital Development Across Asia Pacific

Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd. has partnered with the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) to advance digital development and foster inclusive growth in the Asia Pacific region. The two organizations signed a Joint Declaration during the ITU’s Asia-Pacific Regional Development Forum in Bangkok.

Under this partnership, Huawei and ITU aim to collaborate in six key areas: co-building dialogue platforms for ICT policy and regulation, joint research, inclusive infrastructure, digital capacity-building, girls and youth empowerment, and digital practice-sharing.

Dr. Cosmas Luckyson Zavazava, Director of the Telecommunication Development Bureau of ITU, expressed his appreciation for Huawei’s support in digital transformation across different regions. He emphasized the importance of this partnership and its potential for impact and transformation.

As the United Nations specialized agency for ICT, ITU has proposed the “Connect 2030 Agenda for Global Telecommunication/ICT Development” to accelerate the achievement of the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals by 2030.

Huawei and ITU have been working together to promote ICT innovations in the Asia Pacific. They have jointly conducted research on digital infrastructure and economy, presenting key findings in regional roundtables to inform policy changes.

Digital inclusion is a shared focus for both organizations. They aim to bridge the digital divide and provide telecommunication access for all, including women and girls, youth, and vulnerable populations. Huawei has supported initiatives such as the “Walk into ICT Industry” event and the “Seeds for the Future” project, which provide training and opportunities for young people. They also support ITU’s “Girls in ICT” initiative to encourage young women to pursue STEM studies and careers.

David Li, CEO of Huawei Technologies (Thailand) Co., Ltd., expressed the significance of the joint declaration in enabling a digital Thailand and Asia Pacific. He emphasized the importance of partnership and transformation in empowering a connected region.

This partnership between Huawei and ITU demonstrates their commitment to driving digital development and inclusive growth in the Asia Pacific region.
