Manchester United in Talks with New Shirt Sponsor as TeamViewer Deal Ends Early

Manchester United is in advanced talks with a new partner to replace software firm TeamViewer as their front-of-shirt sponsor. TeamViewer became United’s shirt sponsor in 2021, but the partnership was short-lived. Despite increased global brand exposure, a drop in TeamViewer share prices led the company to re-evaluate its long-term marketing strategy. The sponsorship deal was worth £235m to United, but TeamViewer confirmed that they would not be extending the contract beyond the initial period.

United announced an agreement to buy back TeamViewer’s front-of-shirt sponsorship rights, but the company’s branding will remain on shirts until a new sponsor is found. The search for a new partner is underway, and negotiations with American technology firm Qualcomm are reportedly advanced. The potential deal with Qualcomm is said to be worth £60m per season, exceeding the original contract with TeamViewer and approaching the value of the previous sponsorship with Chevrolet.

Qualcomm has already had a relationship with United since 2022 and has promoted its Snapdragon brand. The company has also advised United on improving network connectivity at Old Trafford. The negotiations with Qualcomm are well-established, but it is unlikely that the TeamViewer branding will be replaced before next summer.

Manchester United has had various shirt sponsors throughout the years, including Sharp, Vodafone, AIG, AON, Chevrolet, and TeamViewer. The partnership with TeamViewer began in 2021 and is set to end in 2026.

It remains to be seen which company will become the new front-of-shirt sponsor for Manchester United, but talks with Qualcomm indicate that a significant deal is on the horizon.
