MGM International and Caesars Entertainment Allegedly Hacked by Scattered Spider

According to Bloomberg News, MGM International and Caesars Entertainment were targeted by a hacking group named Scattered Spider. The report states that Scattered Spider, also known as UNC3944, is comprised of hackers based in the United States and UK, who have previously targeted telecommunications and business process outsourcing companies.

The hackers began targeting Caesars as early as August 27th. Additionally, they reportedly demanded a ransom from MGM, which resulted in the paralysis of the casino operator’s systems for three days. It is suggested that Scattered Spider may have collaborated with ALPHV on the MGM hack.

The FBI has confirmed that it is currently investigating the MGM hack, while rating agency Moody’s has warned that this incident could have a negative impact on MGM’s credit rating.

As of now, neither MGM nor Caesars have responded to requests for comments on the alleged hacks.
