Vodafone is partnering with Ericsson to provide 5G connectivity and a dedicated mobile private network (MPN) for Exercise REPMUS 23, a robotics event that will test unmanned maritime systems in Portugal. The event, organized by the Portuguese Navy, aims to develop and test new concepts for security and defense in the maritime environment.
Vodafone’s contribution to the event includes solutions that can be applied in defense and security environments, such as Asset Tracking for real-time geolocation of assets, Push-to-Talk for instant voice communications, and virtual reality for simulating scenarios for fighting fires.
Giving the Portuguese Navy and other participants access to the MPN will allow them to test technological and operational concepts for unmanned security and defense systems in various environments. The MPN provides reserved, private coverage that ensures a reliable and secure connection, enhancing the security of each solution used at the network, application, and device level.
The REPMUS 23 exercise involves over a thousand military and civilian personnel from NATO, navies, and partner countries. More than 25 navies, nine NATO organizations, and over 30 companies and universities dedicated to research in this sector are participating in the event.
