CST Releases Roadmap to Utilize 5.9 GHz Band for V2X Technology

The Communication, Space, and Technology Commission (CST) has unveiled a road map outlining the utilization of the 5.9 GHz Band for Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology in Saudi Arabia. The roadmap, developed by CST, aims to keep pace with advancements in intelligent transportation systems and facilitate the deployment of autonomous vehicles.

The main objective of this initiative is to enhance road safety and improve the quality of life in the Kingdom by providing drivers with real-time data. The roadmap includes a comprehensive analysis of V2X applications, communication types, and the latest developments in this field. It also incorporates a review of regulatory practices followed by various countries and incorporates feedback from public consultations.

CST is committed to enabling cutting-edge technologies for V2X systems, with a specific focus on Cellular V2X (C-V2X). The choice of C-V2X is based on its advanced use-cases and its seamless integration into existing 4G and 5G networks, making it suitable for V2X applications.

This roadmap complements the ongoing implementation of the Spectrum Outlook for Commercial and Innovative Use for the period 2021-2023 and aligns with the National Spectrum Strategy 2025. It demonstrates CST’s dedication to collaboration with relevant stakeholders to foster a prosperous and secure future.
