During the graduation ceremony of 295 cadet officers from the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) Land and Air Forces, President Yoweri Museveni announced that UPDF will launch a satellite to enhance military and security operations.
President Museveni stated that the Ugandan army is focused on building its capacity to tackle all threats. The planned satellite launch will serve as a valuable tool for the military, providing enhanced insights into security threats. He mentioned that in the past, the army had primarily relied on infantry forces, but they are now progressing towards launching a satellite.
Launching a satellite will provide the UPDF with improved surveillance capabilities over the country’s territory. It will enable effective monitoring of border areas, tracking potential threats, and responding swiftly to security breaches. This advancement will bolster the Ugandan military’s ability to secure the nation and protect its citizens.

By having a satellite in orbit, Uganda will join the league of nations leveraging space assets for national security.
